The confusion arose after an "inside joke" led to an awkward moment, with Wynne placing his hand on Katya's waist, leading her to push him away, only for him to repeat the action.

The clip sparked concern among viewers and swiftly trended online. Subsequently, the dancing duo offered their regrets over the blunder, with Katya clarifying: "I have to make this absolutely clear, that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night, it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke, yes, was it a bad joke, yes."

Come Monday, Wynne expressed his distress over the negative reactions the gag received, confessing: "I'm absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day. It's not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we're really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke. It was a stupid joke that went wrong, OK? We thought it was funny. It wasn't funny. It has been totally misinterpreted."

Tonight marked the comeback of Wynne and Katya to the Strictly dance floor, where they quickstepped to Electric Light Orchestra's 'Mr Blue Sky' - their first live performance since last week's controversy. Although they appeared on Sunday's pre-recorded show, this was their first live appearance after rumours circulated that Katya seemed "uncomfortable", which she has since refuted, reports the Mirror.

Before their live performance to 'Mr Blue Sky', a video featuring Wynne and Katya aired showing her on his shoulders as they walked in the Welsh countryside, prompting viewers to call it out for being awkward. Comments from fans included: "Wins the award for the most awkward VT #strictly."
