A woman who saw Liam Payne in his final hours has broken her silence. The ITV The X Factor star, who hailed from Wolverhampton, has tragically died aged 31, following a horror plunge from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Carola Gauna said she had 'goosebumps' when the 31-year-old One Direction star sang to her when the pair chatted and even posed for a smiley photo. She recalled: "He smiled at me and sang. I got goosebumps’... I'm one of the last people he spoke to. I'm one of the last people he sang to. I went from having the happiest day of my life to one of the saddest."

She added: "Don't write to me, don't call me. Have some decency." She added: "Do you understand that I still have his perfume on me? I think it's crazy. I know he was a celebrity and he didn't even care about me, but today I had a nice moment with him.

"How unfair!" It comes as Dermot O’Leary says Liam Payne was “central” to One Direction on ITV’s This Morning, and “always had this unbelievable, soulful voice”. He added that the X Factor-formed band had “unbelievable longevity” as they were “quite strong willed, and they were very kind of adamant as the kind of music they wanted to make”.

“They became brothers very, very quickly,” O’Leary also said. “These boys were kind of each other’s family, and they were so unbelievably tight.” O’Leary also said he received messages during last night from fellow former X Factor staff, who felt they had “protectiveness” over the band’s members.

He said: “In many ways, we sort of grew up with them, and (so we are) holding close to our people and saying all our love to friends and family.” The X Factor has said Liam Payne will “leave a lasting legacy on the music industry” in a tribute posted on social media following his death.

The singer rose to fame after appearing on the singing competition, first when he was aged 14 and then two years later when he was placed into the boy band One Direction.
