The UK faces "brutal" snow in a Polar vortex and Arctic blast as we head deeper into the autumn, weather maps and charts show. Netweather TV charts show a downturn in weather and deterioration of conditions across the country.

The UK is set to experience a brutal cold snap at the start of October. Netweather TV, using Met Desk data, has mirrored WX Charts by showing -2C conditions on Wednesday October 2, with the UK bracing for a dusting of the white stuff.

Scotland will be worst-hit with the Highlands, Perth and Kinross and Stirling set for flurries, as well as the Cairngorms, Ullapool, Inverness and Fort William in central and north Scotland and over the Lake District in the north of England.

The BBC has warned the first few days of October are "remaining changeable". It said: "During the first week of October conditions could remain on average wetter and windier across much of the UK, with the ongoing pattern of low pressure over the eastern North Atlantic extending into parts of Scandinavia. Nevertheless, temperatures may rise again especially in the southern half of the UK, where periods of weak but temporary high pressure may occur.

"There is still a risk of cooler conditions developing from the north, meaning a higher risk of chillier weather in Scotland, as this stubborn high pressure pattern over Greenland could continue to allow fairly cool air to sink southwards along its eastern flank."

"The next forecast on Friday could confirm some of the predicted trends through early October. After a possibly changeable and windy start, will we see a quieter and slightly warmer October later on?" the Beeb went on to say.
