Simon Jordan believes Aston Villa would not be handed much of a worry by Unai Emery were Manchester United interested in making the Spaniard their next manager.

Emery's side continue to defy what is expected of them. After taking over a team dicing with the drop midway through a campaign the first achievement was Europa Conference League qualification, after that it was Champions League qualification and then just last night, upon the competition's return to Villa Park, a 1-0 win over history-laden Bayern Munich.

Villa are aiming to upset the establishment, and to do that they may have to do what so many before have failed to do - stave off the elite and their designs of stealing a club's most important individuals. Hypothesising on talkSPORT, Jim White posed the idea to Simon Jordan that Manchester United, currently 13th-placed in the Premier League, could sack current boss Erik ten Hag and restart their project with Emery at the helm.

'There is that question, but why would you want to go to Manchester United at this moment in time? Man United are not the side to go to besides reputation," the ex-Crystal Palace chief responded.

"I know I will always be the first person to say there is a challenge in that respect - it is the greatest job in English football if you get it right, but it is also the most difficult job. Right now Emery, I imagine, is pretty grateful the opportunity was given at Villa and is doing the job he was brought in to do."

The pundit hinted towards the belief that Villa will have to keep spending on new players if they are to keep Emery happy and ultimately stamp out any temptation to move on, though even still Jordan says of the so-called 'big six' it is only the Man United job that will feasibly become available in the near future.

"The only job I can see, as you pointed out, is the likely vacancy that will come sometime in the next six months in my view, Ten Hag's. It ain't coming anywhere else. Arsenal won't get rid of [Mikel] Arteta, [Pep] Guardiola will probably be around a little bit longer and the new fella at Liverpool is just getting his feet under the desk.

"Where else is he going to go? Spurs? With that in mind you say that is the job and this is the job he's got at the moment doing a marvellous job. These are the sort of clubs he likes to manage, doesn't he? He likes to manage clubs about this level to build them up."

Villa are up against Man United in the Premier League next, and whilst the opposition coach is believed not be under direct threat of the sack this weekend there is pressure undoubtedly growing on his tenure.
