Drivers can slash their fuel bill by 30 per cent this winter using four easy hacks drivers ALWAYS forget. Howard Cox, founder of FairFuel UK, urged drivers to realise that "achieving the best possible fuel consumption rests firmly in their hands".

Howard claimed: "Up to 30 per cent lower fill-up costs can be achieved if common sense practical approaches are adhered to." Drivers, road users and motorists are urged to ensure tyre pressures are within the recommended window and oil is kept topped up.

Drivers should clean cars regularly and remove roof racks too, because the unnecessary weight can cause chaos. Howard explained: "Remove the boy racer from your psyche. Don’t idle in traffic jams; switch off when stationery is in traffic.

"Brake and accelerate gently and keep the speed constant. When slowing down, remain in gear as long as possible." Howard added: "Regarding the fuel, use the best and most reputable brands with widely available additives that lower emissions and improve consumption."

And in a warning to Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Sainsbury's motorists, Howard said: "Oh, don’t fill up your tank full, just enough for the journeys you need to complete." Fuel Duty will not rise next year, after Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced she would maintain the freeze on the tax.

Fuel Duty is tax that affects anyone looking to purchase fuel for their car as well as people wanting to heat their home. It has not risen in more than a decade, and was frozen between 2012 and 2022, before being cut by 5p in March 2022 when pump prices surged following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Labour Party Chancellor Rachel Reeves said it would be the “wrong choice” to increase fuel duty next year, saying she would continue the freeze and maintain the temporary 5p cut for another year.
