Handsworth pedestrians 'hit by bollard' after car crashed on street

West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called to the junction of Holyhead Road and Clarence Road, just after 6.30pm, yesterday, Sunday, September 29. One man received trauma care at the scene scene before he was rushed to the QE for further treatment.
A second man was also less seriously hurt during the collision. He was taken to Sandwell Hospital for further checks.

An ambulance service spokeswoman told BirminghamLive: "We were called by West Midlands Police to the junction of Holyhead Road and Clarence Road, Handsworth at 6.31pm on Sunday. Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a critical care paramedic attended the scene.
"Two pedestrians had reportedly been hit by a bollard after a car collided with the bollard. One pedestrian, a man, sustained serious injuries in the incident and received trauma care on scene before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further emergency care. The second pedestrian, a man, sustained less serious injuries and was assessed by ambulance staff before being taken to Sandwell Hospital for further checks."
A police statement said: "We are investigating after a man was seriously injured following a collision in #Handsworth last night. It happened at around 6.30pm on Holyhead Road near to the junction with Clarence Road.
A police car and a number of other vehicles were involved in a collision. A pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries after being hit with debris from the collision. He remains in a stable condition.
"A second pedestrian, a man in his 30s, also sustained injuries not believed to be serious. A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as is standard procedure in such circumstances.
