Cheryl "feared the worst" for Liam Payne and "worried no one was looking out for him" before his tragic death. Liam, 31, was in Argentina for pal Niall Horan's tour when he tragically fell from his third floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.

Cheryl, who shares seven-year-old son Bear after the couple's 2018 split, was reportedly concerned about Liam especially after his hospital scare which saw him admitted with a kidney problem. An insider close to the former ITV The X Factor judge said at the time: "Cheryl is really worried about Liam.

"As soon as she heard he was in hospital, she feared the worst. She's really protective of him and is worried no one is actually looking out for him." Dermot O’Leary says Liam was “central” to One Direction on ITV’s This Morning, and “always had this unbelievable, soulful voice”.

He added that the X Factor-formed band had “unbelievable longevity” as they were “quite strong willed, and they were very kind of adamant as the kind of music they wanted to make”. “They became brothers very, very quickly,” O’Leary also said. “These boys were kind of each other’s family, and they were so unbelievably tight.”

O’Leary also said he received messages during last night from fellow former X Factor staff, who felt they had “protectiveness” over the band’s members. He said: “In many ways, we sort of grew up with them, and (so we are) holding close to our people and saying all our love to friends and family.”

Former SAS: Who Dares Wins star Ant Middleton posted a tribute to Liam Payne on X. Middleton described Payne as a “talented positive man with a good heart.” He said: "That was some sunset you captured there mate! A talented positive man with a good heart. I’m glad our friendship flourished and that I was someone you could confine in. Your turn to look over me now bro! Luv ya and will miss you sorely…"
