Road near Birmingham Airport re-opens after two skips of burnt items cleared from house fire

A road near Birmingham Airport has re-opened after a house fire. Three West Midlands fire appliances attended the scene on Goodway Road in Elmdon, Solihull, at around 2.30pm yesterday, Wednesday October 23.

The residential close is across the road from Birmingham Airport's cargo area, and beyond that, the runway. It was sealed off from Rangoon Road to Irving Road while the incident was dealt with.

Live traffic systems suggested the route was back open this morning, with live maps showing cars could access Goodway Road. West Midlands Fire control confirmed the severity of the fire to BirminghamLive on Thursday morning, saying it involved a blaze in the roof space.

The occupants of the house were evacuated before to the fire service arrived. Two skips' worth of burnt material were removed from the site after the blaze.

West Midlands Fire control confirmed the incident was closed at 8.06am on Thursday morning. The duty of care was handed back to the residents of the home and the site was secured. A fire control spokesperson said: "It involved a fire in the roof space.

"The roofing may be affected. It was an attic fire. Two skips' worth of items were removed from the attic.

"All people evacuated. There were three appliances there at the start."
