Missing person search ends in tragedy as body pulled from river

The body of a missing 78-year-old woman was found in the River Severn

The search for a missing person has ended in tragedy after police recovered a body from the River Severn. The remains of the 78-year-old woman were found in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, officers have said.

She had been missing since September. A West Mercia Police statement shared on Facebook added: "A body has been recovered from the River Severn in Shrewsbury in the search for a 78-year-old woman who went missing in September.

"Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal." Despite police not disclosing the name of the woman, social media users have left dozens of condolence messages on the force's update.

Riley Taylor said: "How very sad, condolences to her family and friends. Well done and thank you to all the emergency workers connected to her search and retrieval."

Helen Elizabeth wrote: "My condolences to family and friends. Such sad news." "My thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time," Debra Blackwell added.

Ruth Hancocks said: "Sincere condolences to those who knew the lady."

Birmingham: A Child Poverty Emergency

  1. End the two-child benefit cap
  2. Provide free school meals to every child in poverty
  3. Create a city “aid bank” for baby and child essentials
  4. Protect children’s and youth services
  5. Create permanent, multi year Household Support Fund and give more Discretionary Housing grants
  6. Set up child health and wellbeing hubs in our most deprived neighbourhoods
  7. Appoint a Birmingham child poverty tsar
  8. Provide free public travel for young people
