Jacob Ramsey limped off injured during Aston Villa's Champions League clash against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

The midfielder pulled up during the first half in a potentially huge blow ahead of Sunday's Premier League fixture against Manchester United. Ramsey limped off the pitch at Villa Park and was replaced by Leon Bailey around the half-hour mark.

Villa boss Unai Emery has previously highlighted Ramsey's importance to his team. “Jacob Ramsey is a very important player,” Emery said back in January. “He grew up here in the academy. His progression is clear and getting better. I want to keep him here with us.

“Teams maybe involved in the possibility to sign him, because he is a potentially big, big player in Aston Villa and England. I want to keep him here 100%."

Emery will be hoping to have Ramsey fit for what could already be a crucial fixture in the top four race against United. Villa lost home and away to Erik ten Hag's side last season who finished eighth.

And the Villans could go nine points clear of United when they clash at Villa Park this weekend. Villa also have fixtures against Fulham and Bologna before October's international break.

Villa are set to be without captain John McGinn for a period of time after he picked up a thigh injury. When asked about the importance of a deep squad, Emery said: "In the beginning we are trying to follow the [financial] rules in the summer and we are starting to add two players more like Kamara and Tyrone Mings.

"With the players we have in the squad, I am very happy. Hopefully we play many more matches.

"It depends on each match, how we are getting the balance playing with players who are maybe tired. We are building a team with the players we have and some players, they are progressively feeling comfortable and understanding our ideas and demands. Every player will have opportunities to play and get moments to play."
