Woman in serious condition after Dudley crash as Mercedes driver 'fails to stop for police'

Police later referred the incident in Dudley to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC)

A Mercedes 'drug-driver' who 'failed to stop for police' was arrested after a woman was seriously hurt in a crash in Dudley. Police later referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), the police watchdog.

Police said a patrol car attempted to stop a Mercedes which was suspected of being stolen. But it failed to stop for officers and later collided with a Chevrolet Captiva, on Withymoor Road, at 11.15pm, last night, Wednesday, October 9.

A woman was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition. The Mercedes driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving. He was also taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

A police statement said: "A woman has been taken to hospital following a collision in Dudley last night (9 Oct). The collision, which involved another car, happened in Withymoor Road in Dudley at around 11.15pm.

"A police car attempted to stop a Mercedes which was suspected of being stolen, however the car failed to stop for officers, when directed to do so. The Mercedes collided with a Chevrolet Captiva.

"A woman was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition. The driver of the Mercedes was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving. He was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
