Paramedics release statement after finding man in 'critical condition' in Stourbridge Canal

Ambulance crews began administering advanced life support but nothing could be done to save him

West Midlands Ambulance Service has released a statement after a man's body was tragically found in a Black Country canal. Paramedics said they found the man in a 'critical condition' in Stourbridge Canal after being called to the scene at 8.11am today (October 18).

Ambulance crews immediately began administering advanced life support however nothing could be done to save him. The ambulance service sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers, our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and the WMAS Critical Care Car to the scene.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an incident on Stourbridge Canal, Wordsley at 8.11am. We sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers, our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and The WMAS Critical Care Car to the scene where, upon arrival, crews found a male, in a critical condition.

"Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support however, sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed deceased on scene."

West Midlands Police said it was treating the man's death as 'unexplained' as this stage. A spokesperson said: "We were called after a man's body was found in the canal off Bridge Street, Dudley at just after 8am today. His death is currently being treated as unexplained and our enquires are ongoing."
