Officers deployed the force's helicopter to help track a camper van which was stolen at knifepoint in the Black Country. The vehicle was taken by force in the Tipton area on Saturday, said West Midlands Police.

It was later spotted being driven round, police told BirminghamLive. The National Police Air Service was asked to help track the vehicle.

Officers Traffic WMP then boxed the van in to prevent a potential chase but the driver fled on foot. He was chased and then detained following a struggle.

He is now in custody. Traffic WMP posted details of the incident on X.

The post said: "Officers responded to a knife-point car-jacking of this camper van in Tipton. We saw it a short time later & tracked it with the help of @Npasmidlands before boxing it in to prevent a pursuit.

"The driver decamped & was arrested after a foot chase & struggle."

The National Police Air Service is tasked by police forces across England & Wales.
