Police update on Bescot Stadium station stabbing probe as extra officers flood area

Police have released more details of an attack at a Walsall railway station which left a woman fighting for her life and was being treated as attempted murder. British Transport Police said a woman was attacked at Bescot Stadium railway station shortly before 11.30pm yesterday, Sunday October 20.

The force later said the woman’s injuries were ‘consistent with being stabbed’. She was in hospital with life-threatening injuries. British Transport Police said: “Her next-of-kin has been notified and are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.”

The station was closed as police officers carried out investigations there with a nearby hotel also said to be part of the enquiries. The station later reopened but there was an increased police presence in the area.

An 18-year-old man was arrested today, Monday, October 21, on suspicion of attempted murder. He remained in custody.

British Transport Police urged anyone who witnessed the incident or who had information and had yet to speak to officers, to come forward.

Det Chief Insp Paul Attwell said: “I understand the concern this incident has caused, however I would like to reassure the public this is an isolated incident and an 18-year-old man remains in custody. We are not seeking anyone else in connection.
