Two horses died when a fire ripped through a stable in the Black Country. The blaze in Sedgley sparked an 'avoid the area' warning from firefighters.

Four fire engines were sent to Queens Road at around 1.25am on Tuesday, October 15. Crews from Dudley, Bilston, Tipton and Wolverhampton responded, with the first arriving within five minutes of the 999 call.

The fire, which affected an area of stables and outbuildings, was confirmed to be out at around 6.50am. Two fire engines remained at the scene, extinguishing hotspots, while an investigation into the cause gets under way.

West Midlands Fire Service first posted about the incident on X at around 2am, and said: "We currently have four fire crews in attendance at a large fire off Turls Hill Road, Dudley. Please avoid the area if possible."

A statement released later on this morning read: "Shortly after 1.25am on Tuesday, we responded to Queens Road, Sedgley. Four fire engines from Dudley, Bilston, Tipton and Wolverhampton responded, the first arriving within five minutes of being mobilised.

"This fire affected an area of stables and outbuildings, measuring approximately 20m x 20m. Around 80 per cent of the building was affected. Two main jets and a hose reel were used to extinguish the fire, which was confirmed to be out at around 6.50am.

"Crews were supported by drone operations. Very sadly, two horses died as a result of this fire. Two fire engines remain at this incident, extinguishing hotspots. Fire investigation officers are in attendance."
