Police issue Livery Street arrest update after pedestrians hit by car outside Tunnel Club

Police said six people were injured during the shocking incident outside Tunnel Club in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter

A man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a number of pedestrians were hit by a car outside a city nightclub has been released under investigation. It happened outside the Tunnel Club in Livery Street in the Jewellery Quarter on Friday, October 4, at around 3am.

Detectives described it as a "deliberate" hit-and-run crash. Police said six people were injured in total with five taken to hospital.

Two men remained in hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. A man, aged 22, who was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of attempted murder, was released on bail while investigations continued, police revealed today.

Another man, who was being held on suspicion of affray, remained in police custody. A West Midlands Police spokesperson told BirminghamLive today: "A man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released on bail while investigations continue.

"Two men remain in hospital, with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. One of the men remains under arrest on suspicion of affray."

In a previous statement released on Saturday, October 5, the force said: "We’ve arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after a number of people were injured when a car was driven at people in Livery Street in Birmingham on Friday morning. The 22-year-old was arrested at a property in the city just before 9am today and has been taken into custody for questioning.

“We were called to disorder in Livery Street at around 3am on Friday. A number of people were injured when a car was driven at a group outside The Tunnel nightclub.

"The car was then driven away from the scene. It’s believed six people were injured during the incident altogether, and five were taken to hospital.”
