Aston Villa pay close attention as Liverpool offer double injury update for upcoming Anfield clash

by · Birmingham Live

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has ruled out duo Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott until after the November international break, and therefore both will miss the Anfield clash against Aston Villa.

Some of the most eye-catching games in a Premier League season can be between clubs that occupy top-four spots, with Villa and their rivals Liverpool falling into that bracket again. Just cast your mind back to the last time they met, when Jhon Duran netted twice in front of Tom Hanks and the Villa Park crowd to clinch a 3-3 draw.

The next time those two teams do battle will be on November 9, just 11 days from now, at Anfield. This will be final league fixture before players head off to join their national teams for the third time this season.

The Reds haven't exactly suffered from their injury troubles, sitting second in the table and one point behind leaders Manchester City, but boss Slot has now had his worst doubts confirmed by announcing Jota and Elliott will not be fit before the break.

"No, it will be after that," he responded this morning when asked about the former, via sister site the Liverpool ECHO. "Elliott the same."

Former Wolves attacker Jota was recently forced off after a collision with Chelsea's Tosin Adarabioyo, which was later revealed to have caused an upper body strain. Elliott meanwhile has been sidelined with a fractured foot ever since the September international break.

Also expected to be out when Villa visit Anfield is first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker. The Brazilian tweaked his hamstring against Crystal Palace at the start of the month and is cautiously being worked back to full fitness so that the problem does not re-occur.

A final question mark sits over Federico Chiesa, a summer signing from Juventus who has been absent as he gets to grips with the intensity of English football. Full-back Conor Bradley has been missing from three recent matchday squads, but is expected to be back well in time for Villa's visit to Anfield.
