Cyclist seriously injured after Quinton crash

The incident happened on Woodgate Lane, just before 3pm on Wednesday

A cyclist has been seriously injured in a car collision. Police and paramedics were called to Woodgate Lane in Quinton, just before 3pm on Wednesday, where they found the wounded man.

The patient was treated at the scene before he was conveyed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. There were no other reported casualties.

The number 23 bus service is on diversion. There is also heavy congestion in nearby Clapgate Lane and Carters Lane.

A WMAS spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a collision between a car and a cyclist on Woodgate Lane at 2.56pm. One ambulance and a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic were sent to the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man who was the cyclist. He was treated for serious injuries before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham."

NX West Midlands: "Due to an incident on Clapgate Lane Quinton Service 23 will be diverting via: Adams Hill and Jiggins Lane. Apologies for any disruption to your journey."

Traffic provider INRIX said: "Carters Lane in both directions blocked, queueing traffic due to accident from The Old Crown Inn to the petrol station. Congestion to Howley Grange Road for traffic heading away from Halesowen and back to Adams Hill for traffic heading away from Bartley Green.
