One Direction devotees and celebrities have taken to social media to criticise TMZ for sharing images of Liam Payne's body after his tragic demise.

Liam, 31, a former member of One Direction, tragically fell from the third floor of a hotel building in Argentina's capital. Emergency services including police, firefighters and ambulances were spotted outside the hotel following the incident.

Reports suggest that police were called to the scene due to reports of a man behaving aggressively at the hotel, possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

A body was discovered in the hotel's internal courtyard. The hotel manager is said to have alerted the police.

It's believed that Liam fell approximately 13 or 14 metres, sustaining "very serious injuries incompatible with life.", reports the Mirror.

In a statement, the local ambulance manager told TN: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel.

A source close to Liam's ex-partner Maya told Mail Online: "Right now she is obviously in shock."

Reports indicate that Maya only found out about Liam's death when a journalist contacted a member of her team.

Fans were left outraged after TMZ published a photo showing parts of Liam Payne's body post-mortem.

Rylan Clark voiced his disgust on Twitter, posting: "And TMZ f**king shame on you. Disgrace."

Another appalled individual remarked: "TMZ posting part of a photo of Liam Payne's dead body in an article announcing his death is beyond deplorable.

I can't tell if I'm losing my mind lately or if society has always been this overtly morally decrepit."

A further comment read: "No matter how you felt about liam payne, posting pictures of his dead body is f**king mental".

Ainger Alessia Cara slammed TMZ directly on social media, saying: "You're gross @TMZ."

The sentiment was echoed by another person who said: "I know we complain about TMZ a lot but they really surprise me every time at how insensitive they can be."

In the moments leading up to his untimely passing, Liam had been recording his experiences in Argentina and went to see his ex-bandmate Niall Horan in concert.

It's been reported that he checked into a hotel by himself before his demise.

Alberto Crescenti, spokesperson for the city ambulance service, said: "The alarm was raised at 5.04pm local time saying a person was lying in an internal patio at Casa Sur. At 5.11pm an ambulance arrived and the man was certified dead. Afterwards we found out he had been a famous singer. Unfortunately the injuries he had suffered as a result of the fall proved to be fatal. There was no possibility of resuscitating him."
