Birmingham police declare 'major incident' after five pedestrians 'deliberately' run over in city centre

Police ask public to send in any footage they have after a group of people were driven at and injured in Livery Street

Police are urging anyone with footage of a car deliberately ploughing into pedestrians in Birmingham city centre to send it to them. Paramedics treated five victims after they were hit by a vehicle in the early hours of Friday in Livery Street.

An investigation is underway and the force has activated their Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP). This allows members of the public to submit still or moving images.

One man was arrested on suspicion of affray, while a manhunt is underway to track the driver and the car involved.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said one male was seriously injured in the incident. He suffered multiple serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.

Four other men were treated for potentially serious injuries and were also taken to hospital.

A police spokesman told BirminghamLive: "We are investigating after a number of people were injured after, it is believed, they were deliberately driven at in Birmingham this morning. We were called to Livery Street shortly after 3am after a report of a disorder involving a group.

"Officers attended and five people were found injured. One man was arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in custody at this time, while we are still actively searching for the driver and the car involved.

"We are treating this incident as a targeted attack and are stepping up our patrols in the area today for reassurance. We are asking anyone who saw what happened, especially those with photos or video, to get in touch with us via 101 or Live Chat quoting log 315 of October 4. We remain at the scene this morning while our enquiries continue."
