Birmingham is set to host a Halloween Market next month, bringing some 'spooky' fun to the city. Taking place in Southside, the street market will feature seasonal food and drink.

There will also be live music plus free family activities to enjoy. A highlight will be the pumpkin carving competition. People are encouraged to bring along their creations for a chance to win tickets to see the Peter Pan panto.

Organised by Southside BID, in partnership with the Birmingham Hippodrome, it's all happening in Hippodrome Square on Hurst Street in the city centre. You don't, however, have to wait until Halloween to enjoy it.

The event takes place on Saturday, October 12, with the market opening from 10am. It's the second in a series of Southside's themed Saturday markets that are partly funded by the government.

Julia Robinson, manager of Southside BID, said: “The Halloween Market will be a lively event packed full of fun for everyone, including families with young children. We’re particularly looking forward to seeing everyone’s efforts at pumpkin carving, and seeing all the spooky goods and activities organised by the market traders.

“The whole purpose of our regular markets is to bring a great deal of enjoyment to Southside in the heart of Birmingham city centre, highlighting it as a place that welcomes everybody.”

The first Saturday themed market was the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival held on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15. It saw 65,557 visitors flocking on Saturday alone.

After the Halloween Market on October 12, the next two street markets on Southside will be Pride on November 16 and Christmas on December 14.
