Liam Payne's funeral is reportedly expected to take place next month. The One Direction star died earlier this week after falling from his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The 31-year-old was staying at the CasaSur Palermo when he died. His dad Geoff left the family home in Codsall, South Staffordshire, near Wolverhampton, to travel to Argentina in the wake of his son's death.

It is understood he identified Payne's body to authorities. It has now emerged that the late singer's body could remain in Argentina between 10 and 15 days - until the results of toxicological tests are known.

His remains will be handed over to his relatives and repatriated to England once an investigation comes to an end, sources have said. It means that his funeral could take place at the start of next month once his body returns to the UK, according to Argentine newspaper Clarín.

It comes after the preliminary results of an autopsy, performed by the Forensic Medical Corps at the Judicial Morgue on Viamonte Street, revealed that Payne died from 'multiple traumas'.

He suffered 'internal and external bleeding', Mirror reports. The Public Prosecutor's Office said in a statement: "The head injuries were sufficient to cause death, while the internal and external hemorrhages in the skull, chest, abdomen and limbs contributed to the mechanism of death."

A toxicological and anatomical-pathological study of his blood and urine are being undertaken to determine whether there were any traces of drugs. His medical history might also be needed to analyse his mental health history.

An investigation is being led by Prosecutor No. 16, headed by Andrés Madrea, with testimonies being taken by Deputy Secretary María Florencia Lavaggi. Full autopsy results will be revealed in due course.

Payne's father looked at tributes left by fans and thanked them for their support. Following the news, his family said in a statement: "We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time."

One Direction also united to share an emotional joint statement. A message signed "Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry" read: "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.

"The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."
