BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden collapses backstage as ambulance called

by · Birmingham Live

A 999 call was made to paramedics after BBC Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden fell ill backstage. The professional dancer is understood to have felt unwell just moments after her performance on Saturday evening.

She took to the Strictly dancefloor with JLS star JB Gill but felt ill soon after. Show bosses were forced to call for help, with paramedics confirming they were dispatched to a 'medical emergency'.

It comes after the 34-year-old returned to Strictly full time this year. She was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May 2023 after finding a lump in her breast the day before she went on her honeymoon.

A spokesman for Amy said: "Amy was feeling unwell and so an ambulance was called as a precaution. She is feeling much better and would like to thank the Strictly family for their love and concern.

"We request Amy's privacy in matters of health is kindly respected." An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed they were sent to the Strictly set, Mirror reports.

They said: "We were called just after 9pm on Saturday to attend a medical emergency at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood. An ambulance was sent to the scene.

"One patient, an adult female, was transported to Barnet Hospital for further care." Amy and JB glided their way to a score of 32 with their foxtrot to Dancing In The Moonlight by Toploader, finish fifth on the leaderboard.

Anton Du Beke said it was a 'super duper performance', while Craig Revel Horwood said JB could have gone further with the scarecrow character.
