Liam Payne shared a poignant One Direction photo in his final Instagram post just weeks before his tragic death in a hotel balcony fall. The 31-year-old ITV The X Factor star from Wolverhampton died in Buenos Aires this week.

The dad-of-one, from the Black Country, posted a throwback snap alongside Niall, as well as Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik, and late US filmmaker Morgan Spurlock. Alongside the photo, uploaded earlier this year, Liam wrote: "Rest in peace Morgan Spurlock it was a pleasure working with you."

In reply to the Instagram photo today, fans are sending tributes underneath, with one typing: "We all know you were not perfect, but you made me so happy during the One Direction years, my dream was always go to London to do a directioner trip, I’m about to do it in a few days, but I don’t know if is gonna feel the same knowing that you are already gone, I was so distance of you and your music, for personal reasons, but my inner child still love you, thanks for everything, I hope you’re finally in peace, we love you Liam."

"Rest in peace Liam. Thanks for being a big special part of my childhood. I wish this was a joke or sth. Sorry about them saying you were an attention seeker. Now One direction will never be the same for me. You deserved much more than this ending," a second said.

"Rest in peace Liam, thank you for being a part of all of our childhood’s, bringing smiles and music to all of us, and growing up with us. You will be severely missed," another typed. "Liam, we, One Direction fans, will always love you and we’ll miss you forever!" wrote another.

"Rest in peace! You’ve changed millions of lives and for this, we are forever grateful to you and your music! Now the angels will take care of you while we will be staying here, keeping you always in our thoughts and prayers," another posted.

The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood said he was “shocked and saddened” at the news a he posted a video of him performing on X Factor with One Direction. The PA news agency reports that Payne’s death comes after it was widely reported that his ex-fiancee, Maya Henry, had started legal proceedings, allegedly issuing a cease and desist letter for repeated contact.

The US model, who was engaged to Payne from August 2020 until he announced their separation in June 2021, claimed in a recent TikTok video that, since their break-up, the singer would “blow up my phone” from different numbers. In the hours before his death, Payne reportedly posted a video on Snapchat saying: “It’s a lovely day here in Argentina.”
