Met Office says dramatic weather shift in England will start today

The UK faces a -5C temperature change with an icy chill sweeping the country as October ends and November begins. The Met Office has warned balmy and warmer temperatures won't last as we head towards Christmas, as the final 18C days of the year are marked after highs in Yorkshire.

The Met Office says it will be colder this week due to Scandinavian air, with 5C temperatures currently in Norway. The weather shift is bringing in cold air from the North Sea and Scandinavia, forecasters and meteorologists have said.

In its forecast for Tuesday (October 29) the Met Office explained: "A fairly cloudy day for many, though a better chance of a few bright spells developing in the northeast and south during the afternoon. The odd light shower, with more persistent rain in the far north. Staying mild.

"Mild overnight under a blanket of cloud. Cloud may be thick enough to bring light rain and drizzle. More persistent rain moves southeast whilst drying out. Fog forming in places." The outlook for Wednesday (October 30) adds: "Another cloudy day after mist and fog clear through the morning in the south.

"Breezier in the north with a few light showers, but remaining mild throughout." The outlook for Thursday to Saturday explained: "Staying dry, mild, though fairly cloudy. Patchy rain, with occasional brighter or clearer breaks, the latter allowing some fog to form overnight.

"Wetter and windier in far north at times." Looking ahead at the end of the next month, the Met Office said: "This means an increased risk of periods of wet and windy weather for many parts of the UK. Later in the month, high pressure may build back in and bring a change to drier, more settled conditions once again.

"Temperatures will probably be close to average overall, although some colder interludes are possible."
