Three teens and child arrested after funeral car set alight in Black Country

An unknown object which was on fire was thrown underneath the funeral car as it was parked on Upper High Street in Wednesbury

Three teenagers and a child were arrested after a funeral car was set alight. The blaze was caused after a burning object was thrown underneath the vehicle as it was parked in Upper High Street, Wednesbury, at around 2pm on Thursday, October 17.

The flames quickly spread and caused significant damage. Police officers arrested two 13-year-old boys and two girls aged 12 and 13 on suspicion of arson, not endangering life. They remained in custody.

Sandwell Police said: "We have made four arrests after a funeral car was set alight in Wednesbury yesterday. At around 2pm on Upper High Street an unknown object, which was on fire, was thrown underneath the vehicle.

"This caused the vehicle to catch fire, causing significant damage. Following enquiries we have arrested two boys aged 13, a 13-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl on suspicion of arson, not endangering life.

"They remain in custody for questioning. If you see anything suspicious in your area then please report it and we can take action. You can do this by calling 101."
