Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler gives his verdict after watching Wolves games

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler is determined not to take Wolves lightly as the Seagulls look to continue their strong start to the season. Despite Brighton's soaring performance that left them in fifth place after a narrow victory over Newcastle, Hurzeler emphasised there is absolutely no margin for complacency.

With Gary O'Neil's Wanderers side securing just one point from eight games and suffering consecutive defeats across all contests, Brighton's head coach acknowledged their challenging schedule and competitive play. At a press conference, he asserted: "One thing won’t happen: we won’t underestimate Wolverhampton because when you see their games, first of all, they’ve had a really tough schedule, so they’ve had tough games since the beginning of the season."

He continued, stressing the importance of staying vigilant on the pitch: "And second of all, the truth is that they’ve played well. In every game, they’ve had the chance to win or to get a draw, and that’s why we won’t underestimate them."

"It will be a hard challenge. What I’ve learned, especially from the first games, you can’t underestimate any opponent."

Hurzeler concluded by saying, "Every opponent has quality and you have to pay attention. For 90 minutes you have to defend well against them. You have to be good in counter-pressing and you have to make the next step as a team, and that’s the challenge for us."

Wolves came agonisingly close to nabbing a point against Manchester City last Sunday, and with an early lead in hand, it took John Stones' stoppage-time goal in a hotly debated finish to clinch a 2-1 defeat for them. Having already played Brighton at AMEX Stadium this season—a meeting which saw a 3-2 victory for Brighton in the Carabao Cup third round—the recent history doesn't weigh heavily on Hurzeler's mind.

He reflected: "I think it’s difficult. It’s a long time ago now. I think there were different players on the pitch. On our side, but also on the side for Wolverhampton."

The Brighton manager also has a tough call regarding Danny Welbeck, who was carried off at St James’ Park after scoring the game's only goal. Following his recovery from a severe back injury, Welbeck has rejoined training but is still in pain and remains a questionable pick for the upcoming match, while Simon Adingra is tipped to be part of the team.
