Energy customers at 30 companies will get 'automatic' £150 rebate from next week

30 energy firms are giving customers free £150 to help with bills this winter. 30 energy suppliers are offering a £150 rebate to support households through the winter as part of the Warm Home Discount scheme from the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ).

The £150 discount will be applied directly to eligible customers' electricity accounts between October and March. If you're in England or Wales, you should get it automatically if you get the 'guarantee element' of Pension Credit.

If you or your partner were receiving guarantee credit on 11 August 2024, and your name (or your partner's) is on your energy bill, you should qualify for the discount as part of what's known as 'core group 1'. You may also be eligible if you are on certain benefits AND have "high energy costs".

If you receive certain means-tested benefits, such as Income Support or Universal Credit, you may qualify for the discount as part of what's known as 'core group 2'. You must have been receiving the qualifying benefit on 11 August 2024.

The £150 is typically deducted from your electricity bill, but you may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead, as long as your supplier provides both your gas and electricity. You'll need to contact your supplier to find out if the discount can be applied to your gas bill instead.

According to GOV.UK, the following suppliers took part in last year's Warm Home Discount scheme. It is likely they will be a part of this year's too - although this has not been confirmed. These include 100Green (formerly Green Energy UK or GEUK) and Affect Energy.

Atlantic, Boost, British Gas, Bulb Energy, Co-op Energy and E are also listed alongside Ecotricity, E.ON Next, EDF, Good Energy, London Power, Octopus Energy, Outfox the Market and OVO. Rebel Energy and Sainsbury’s Energy completes the list alongside Scottish Gas.

Others are Scottish Hydro and ScottishPower alongside Shell Energy Retail, So Energy, Southern Electric, SSE Energy Services, Swalec and Tomato Energy. TruEnergy, Utilita and Utility Warehouse are also on the list for the Warm Home Discount scheme.
