Tamworth murder investigation as man dies after crash near Tesco Express

A murder investigation has been launched after a man hit by a car outside a Staffordshire Tesco store died. The incident took place in Coleshill Street, Fazeley, Tamworth at around 9.15am on Thursday, July 18.

The victim, a pedestrian in his 70s, was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire by land ambulance, after an air ambulance were sent to the scene. At the time he was said to have suffered serious injuries.

Staffordshire Police said he died on Friday, October 4. A 66-year-old man, from Leicester, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on the day of the crash.

He has now been arrested on suspicion of murder and was being questioned in custody. A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “Detectives are investigating after a man sadly died following a collision in Fazeley.

“At about 9.15am on Thursday, July 18, we were called to Coleshill Street, near to Tesco Express, following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car. We attended the scene alongside colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

“The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. We arrested a man the same day on suspicion of attempted murder. Sadly, the pedestrian died in hospital on Friday 4 October.

“Specially-trained officers are supporting his family at this tragic time. A 66-year-old man, from Leicester, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.
