ITV Love Your Weekend host Alan Titchmarsh issues apology to viewers after guest's comments

by · Birmingham Live

Alan Titchmarsh found himself apologising to viewers during the latest episode of Love Your Weekend, following a guest's cheeky comments about a co-star.

The TV host addressed his apology specifically to the family of his guest, actor Ian McNeice.

Discussing his two-decade stint on popular series Doc Martin, McNeice confessed he hadn't predicted the show's success and admitted he never memorised the script for the audition. Despite this, he described it as the job from heaven and revealed one of his co-stars was like the child he always wanted.

After playing a clip from an earlier season featuring McNeice and Martin Clunes's titular character, the actor expressed his enjoyment of working with Clunes and Joe Absolom, who he referred to as the child he always wanted.

When Alan asked if he had any children of his own, McNeice confirmed he had two sons and a daughter, adding that his previous comment 'doesn't go down well at home'.

Following a repeat of the statement, Alan turned to the camera and issued an apology to McNeice's family for the comments made.

The actor further discussed his previous role in Doctor Who, where he portrayed Sir Winston Churchill. He even has a Facebook group dedicated to his character Bert Large, reports the Express.

His stint on the BBC sci-fi hit has taken him to Australia and America for conventions, and he even participated in a Doctor Who cruise.

He also reminisced about his time working with Jim Carrey in the cult comedy Ace Ventura. McNeice described the comic as a 'lunatic', stating that he's always switched on 24 hours a day.

He added that while most actors would retreat to their trailers during filming breaks, perhaps to rest or enjoy a cup of tea while waiting for the next scene setup, Carrey would remain on set.

He claimed that Carrey would 'entertain the troops' by making funny voices or constantly performing gags to keep everyone's spirits high.

Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh continues next Sunday at 9.30am on ITV1 and ITVX
