Liam Payne death probe sees police examine new footage amid 'drug delivery'

by · Birmingham Live

Police investigating Liam Payne's death have reportedly been examining new footage. Officers are said to be looking over newly collected CCTV footage from the hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the One Direction singer was staying.

It is understood they are trying to determine whether the 31-year-old - from Wolverhampton - received a drug delivery. Officers are also thought to be examining the dad-of-one's mobile phone.

They want to know who he was in contact with in the hours before he fell from the balcony of his room at the CasaSur Palermo hotel. It comes as officials from the public prosecutor's office met with Payne's dad Geoff Payne, who is in Argentina.

Andrés Esteban Madrea told the later siner's dad that toxicology and histopathological exams have not yet been completed, Mirror reports. Once the results are gathered, Payne's body should be released to the family.

A source said: "It is a painstaking investigation. As the eyes of the world are still wanting to know about Liam’s death, Madrea knows everything from CCTV and phone records to Liam’s post-mortem must done with precision.

"He has told his staff no stone must be left unturned and that the investigation will be led where the evidence takes them. He has personally vowed to Geoff that if criminality is found in any way, those responsible will face the full force of the law."

According to local reports, an initial toxicology report found the presence of cocaine in Payne's body at the time of his death. The preliminary exam was handed to local prosecutors.

But they stressed it did not offer an accurate reading of how much of the drug was in his blood when he died. Authorities believe that Payne - who shared seven-year-old son Bear with Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole - was in a state of 'semi or total unconsciousness' when he fell.
