Full ambulance statement after man seriously injured in Erdington crash as police appeal

A man was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after a crash in Erdington. The 24-year-old was a passenger in a car when it smashed into railings at Kingsbury Road and Chester Road junction shortly before 4.45am yesterday, November 3.

He was extricated from the vehicle whilst paramedics provided trauma care before being rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment. A huge section of nearby Chester Road was closed throughout Sunday after the incident.

Police said two other people, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, and a second passenger, had left the scene. Detectives urged the occupants of a car to "do the right thing and come forward".

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said today: “On arrival crews found a passenger, a man, trapped in the car in a serious condition. The team of ambulance staff worked quickly with fire colleagues to rapidly extricate him from the car whilst providing trauma care.

“The man’s condition was stabilised on scene before he was conveyed by ambulance on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further trauma care. No other occupants were found at the scene.”

A previous West Midlands Police statement read: "We're appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was seriously injured following a single-car collision in the early hours of this morning. The passenger of the car was seriously injured after the car hit railings at the junction of Chester Road and Kingsbury Road in Erdington at around 4.44am.

"The 24-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Two people, believed to be the driver of the vehicle and a second passenger, left the scene. We're appealing to them to do the right thing and come forward."
