Two-hour disruption on Bristol Road after police incident

Buses diverted for several hours as police dealt with two-car crash on major Birmingham route

A police incident on a major Birmingham route sparked two-hours of disruption today. Drivers and bus users were diverted around the scene from 11am until shortly after 1pm on Saturday.

Emergency services were alerted to the two-car smash on Bristol Road, Selly Oak, just before 11am. Police said it happened near the Weoley Park Road junction.

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the crash. A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We were called to a two-car collision on Bristol Road, near the Weoley Park Road junction, at just before 11am.

"No one was seriously injured. " The incident had sparked disruption for buses travelling in the area from late morning into early afternoon.

National Express West Midlands took to social media to warn of the impact on services. They wrote: "Due to an incident on Bristol Road #SellyOak Services 20, 20A, 61, 63 & X21 will be diverting towards QE and City via Weoley Park Road & Gibbins Road. Apologies for any disruption to your journey."

It was later cleared at around 1.20pm, with passengers told the services would be "running their normal line of route" from then onwards. National Express apologised for the disruption.

They later added: "Bristol Road Selly Oak is now clear Services 20, 20A, 61, 63 & X21 will be running normal line of route Apologies for any disruption to your journey."
