Ambulance statement after police chase crash leaves teen girl seriously hurt

A teenage girl was rushed to hospital following a crash in West Bromwich. It came after a suspected Volkswagen Golf was chased by police late last night (Sunday, October 6).

The vehicle collided with a brick wall before the driver made off on foot. Three passengers remained at the scene and were all treated by medics.

A 19-year-old girl suffered serious injuries and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Two teenage boys aged 17 and 19 were treated at the scene before being arrested by police officers.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called by the police to reports of an RTC at the junction of Hampshire Road and Holloway Bank, West Bromwich at 11.30pm on Sunday 6th October.

"An ambulance and paramedic officer attended the scene and assessed three occupants from a car. Two men were treated on scene before being left in the care of police. A woman received trauma care on scene before being conveyed on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police added: "We are appealing for information after a woman was seriously injured following a collision in West Bromwich last night. A Volkswagen Golf, which had been reported stolen, hit a brick wall at around 11.15pm on Hampshire Road.

"The driver made off on foot, after failing to stop for officers, prior to the collision. Two of the passengers, a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

"The third passenger, a 19-year-old woman suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital for further treatment. A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as is normal procedure in such circumstances.
