Police issue 'stark reminder' of knife crime after boy, 16, stabbed in street

A 16-year-old boy was injured in a stabbing near to a takeaway shop. The incident unfolded on High Street in West Bromwich just after 4.30pm on Wednesday, October 2.

Medics raced to the scene and treated the boy before he was rushed to hospital. Thankfully, his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

West Midlands Police (WMP) are now trawling through CCTV as they investigate what happened. A spokesperson for the force said: "We're investigating after a teenager was stabbed in High Street, West Bromwich, at just after 4.30pm yesterday (2 October).

"A 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with injuries which were thankfully not life-threatening. We're carrying out active enquiries - including a thorough review of CCTV - to establish what led to this incident and who was involved.

"We'll continue to have visible patrols in and around the town centre throughout the coming days." Images of the scene show a police cordon near Peppers City Takeout.

News of the stabbing comes as The Knife Angel made its way into Sandwell this week to highlight the dangers of knife crime. A spokesperson for WMP continued: "One incident involving a weapon is one too many and we're working with partners to tackle knife crime. The Knife Angel has arrived in Sandwell this month and acts as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of knife violence.

"We want the monument, currently based in Oldbury Civic Square, to spark conversations within our communities around the importance of people choosing life, not knife."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a stabbing on High Street at 4.33pm. One ambulance, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and a Critical Care Paramedic attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a teenage male. He was treated for serious injuries before being taken to hospital."
