Body found in canal as police launch 'unexplained' death probe

The body of a man was sadly found in a canal near a train station, police have said. His death is currently being treated as 'unexplained' as officers work to find out more information about what happened.

They were called to a stretch of water near Kidsgrove Train Station just before 7am on Tuesday, October 29, following reports that someone had seen a body in the canal. A cordon was then set up and the remains were recovered from the area.

Anyone with information has been urged to come forward and notify police. A spokesperson for the force said: "We are investigating after the body of a man was found in a canal in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

"We were called shortly before 7am [on] (Tuesday, October 29) to a canal near Kidsgrove Train Station following a report from someone who saw the body in the water. Officers went to the scene and set up a cordon.

"Sadly, the body of a man was found at the scene. We are currently treating the death as unexplained and have launched an investigation to find out more about what happened."
