Police arrest 17-year-old accused of shooting 19-year-old in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — A 17-year-old was arrested Friday and accused of shooting his 19-year-old roommate in the Glendale area.

The investigation started shortly before midnight on Thursday when Salt Lake police responded to a shooting near 700 W. North Temple.

Paramedics took a 19-year-old to the hospital with injuries that were serious but life-threatening, according to a press release from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

"Based on the preliminary investigation, officers have learned a fight occurred between the two teens over a watch, which escalated into a shooting," said the release.

A 17-year-old male, whose name was not released, was booked into the Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention Center on investigation of aggravated assault, felony discharge of a firearm resulting in serious bodily injury, minor with possession of a firearm and failing to stop at the command of law enforcement, police said.

Officers are also looking for another person, though that person's specific involvement is currently unknown.
