New Nvidia GeForce laptop GPU lineup, including RTX 5090, listed in new leak
Details of Nvidia's next-gen GeForce RTX mobile GPUs have been listed on the PCI ID repository website, from the RTX 5090 to the RTX 5050.
by Ben Stockton · PCGamesNNew details have leaked for Nvidia’s next-gen GeForce RTX laptop GPUs, including the potential new flagship RTX 5090 laptop chip. While details are light, the leak suggests that Nvidia is committed to keeping the shared product names for both mobile and desktop cards, while also pointing to a potentially beefed-up RTX 5080 for laptops.
Nvidia hasn’t yet confirmed any details about its new RTX 5000 series cards, which are likely to dominate our best graphics cards shortlist on launch, but there’s a strong chance that the company is planning to announce them during the CES 2025 trade show in January. Current mobile RTX 40 series GPUs lack the power and performance of their desktop counterparts, with a laptop RTX 4090 matching a desktop RTX 4070 Ti.
These new laptop Nvidia GPUs appeared on the PCI ID repository website, a well-maintained archive of all known PCI devices. The original posts were made under the name “faintsnow”, a contributor previously linked to several earlier Nvidia disclosures via the PCI ID repository over the years, including the mobile RTX 3070 Ti before it launched.
The new repository entries don’t confirm any details about the specs behind these new Nvidia Blackwell GPUs, but it looks as though Nvidia is planning a similar model lineup to the RTX 40 series on laptops. Listed in the archive are entries for top-end RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 mobile GPUs, likely mid-tier RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti GPUs, and budget-level RTX 5060 and RTX 5050 GPUs for laptops.
The only unusual entry is the mobile RTX 5070 Ti, as previous Ti models, such as the RTX 4070 Ti, typically launched mid product cycle to refresh the lineup rather than being part of the initial release. If this leak came from a hardware manufacturer, the entry for an RTX 5070 Ti could point to a much sooner launch than anticipated for that model.
These details are backed up in a post by hardware leaker Harukaze5719 on X (formerly Twitter) who, along with being one of the first people to spot the new PCI ID repository entries, also pointed out details about the Blackwell graphics processors used in each model.
According to Harukaze5719, details from the repository point to both the RTX 5090M and RTX 5080M using the same GB203M Blackwell GPU, while several unidentified GB102 GPUs are listed separately to the other model names. This would be a departure from the RTX 40 series, which saw different GPU dies used for the RTX 4090 and 4080 on mobile.
While real-world performance largely depends on the TDP (thermal design power) limits set by each laptop, this could mean that the performance gap between the RTX 5090 and 5080 on laptops is much closer compared to their 40-series counterparts. By using the same GPU, both cards may be closer in raw power, with performance scaling based on each model’s TDP allowance rather than any significant architectural differences.
While these new laptop chips from Nvidia haven’t been officially confirmed, their appearance in the PCI ID repository is a likely sign that new gaming laptops containing them are already well on their way to being completed. If Nvidia plans to launch its mobile and desktop RTX 50 series GPUs together, new gaming laptops with these mobile GPUs could launch in early 2025, when current leaks suggest that the new lineup will be announced.
