Kia V9 Advntr and PV5 Wkndr presented at SEMA Show – off-road-themed concepts built for adventure
by Gerard Lye · Paul Tan's Automotive NewsKia marked its return to the SEMA Show this year by presenting two concept lifestyle vehicles called the EV9 Advntr and PV5 Wkndr. Imagined by designers from Kia Design Centre America (KDCA), the concepts are said to “bring to life an easy to imagine future where vehicles will provide the ultimate in capability, adaptability, utility and organisation and all with an eye on sustainability.”
Starting with the EV9 Advntr, the brand’s all-electric three-row SUV (launched in Malaysia in June) is transformed into a vehicle built to take on the beaten path. Custom front and rear ends give the EV9 a more rugged look, accompanied by reinforced rocker panels for increased capability.
To add to its functionality, the SUV also gets lifted by three inches and is fitted with a off-road-focused wheel and tyre combination as well as a custom roof rack. The latter can handle everything from luggage containers to bespoke roof-mounted tents, which are things one would need when exploring the great outdoors.
As for the PV5 Wkndr, it is based on one of the brand’s Platform Beyond Vehicles (PBVs) that it presented at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January. Like the SUV concept, the electric van gets lifted and equipped with off-road tyres, while the adaptable modular interior is transformed into a mobile living space.
Kia is also particular proud of the van’s ‘Gear Head’ feature, which it claims is a first-of-its-kind storage solution that provides an off-board, sheltered storage space for gear when the vehicle is stationary, allowing for maximum utilisation of interior space while still offering easy access to gear outside.
This can also be used to set up a mobile pantry for those looking to do a spot of cooking, while solar panels help to recharge batteries that can be used for various functions. There’s even an onboard compressor to adjust tyre pressures or to inflate a mattress if needed.
In addition to the two concepts, Kia also readied one-of-a-kind versions of three of its most popular SUVs based on figures found in Greek mythology. The first is a Sportage inspired by Thetis (goddess of water), which is joined by a Zeus-themed Telluride and a Sorento that looks to Gaia, goddess of earth.
