Liverpool continued their fine start to the season with a 2-0 win over Bologna on Wednesday. Alexis Mac Allister gave the Reds the lead in the first half, before Mohamed Salah added the second in the 75th minute to earn them three vital points in the revamped Champions League.

Victory also means that Arne Slot has become the first Liverpool manager to win eight of his first nine matches in charge. They have beaten Ipswich, Brentford, Manchester United, Bournemouth and Wolves in the Premier League, West Ham in the Carabao Cup, plus AC Milan and Bologna in Europe.

Next up for the Reds is a visit to Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime. With Slot's side top of the Premier League, there's an opportunity for them to extend their lead at the summit as The Liverpool Echo takes a look at the latest news and rumours circulating the club;

Crouch notices Alisson make point

Peter Crouch noticed Alisson making a point to the Liverpool fans during the first half of their victory over Bologna. The Anfield crowd turned nervy when the Italian side had a dominant spell at the end of the opening period. During this time, Bologna had several chances to score but failed to convert.

Speaking on punditry duty for TNT Sports, Crouch said: "Liverpool were in total control and let Bologna back into it. They've shot themselves in the foot, playing out from the back and getting caught in possession. Bologna have had chance after chance and Alisson has told the fans to calm down.

"You can sense it is getting a little bit nervy. There's a bit of history with what happened against Atalanta. Liverpool need to regain control."

Zubimendi opens up on transfer snub

Martin Zubimendi has revealed he doesn't regret turning down a move to Liverpool this summer in order to stay with Real Sociedad. The 25-year-old had caught the attention of the Reds - who wanted to sign a new defensive midfielder - but he decided to stay with the Basque-based club.

Speaking to Noticias de Gipuzkoa on why he stuck with Sociedad, Zubimendi said: "It's true that there was a lot of noise. I went through uncomfortable moments, [but] the best thing for me was to stay here.

"Because of the press there's a lot of noise. In the end everything is easier than all that.

"Of course, I don't regret it [despite Sociedad's early season struggles], I can't think that after four or five games at the start of the season. I made my decision from within, I thought it was the best thing to do, and the results don't affect me, I see potential in this team.

"You just have to watch us train. I'm excited about having a good season.

"In the end, like every market, things always come up. This summer it was my turn.

"These are things which happen which you have to deal with in the best way possible. It's true that I was a bit uncomfortable with everything, especially because of the noise, and in the end I isolated myself and made the decision that I thought was the right one."
