Sony's latest console, the PlayStation 5 Pro, is set to hit shelves this week, with gamers eagerly awaiting its release. The new console, which will launch today, Thursday November 7 and is still available for pre-order from retailers including Amazon, Game, Very and Playstation direct, with prices starting at £699.

Sony has touted the PS5 Pro as having the 'most impressive visuals' ever seen on a PlayStation, boasting advanced ray tracing, super sharp image clarity for 4K TVs, support for 8K gaming, high frame rate gameplay up to 120Hz, and a massive 2TB of storage. Over 50 games will be available with PS5 Pro enhancements at launch, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, EA Sports FC 25 and Hogwarts Legacy.

However, due to its hefty price tag, some shoppers are opting for earlier and more affordable versions of the PS5, such as the Slim model, which is now almost £300 cheaper than the new Pro. The cheapest price we've found for the PS5 Slim Digital Console is on Amazon, where it's currently priced at £386.99.

The next best deal is at Very, which offers it for £389, while other retailers including Game, Argos and PlayStation Direct offer it for £389.99. Gamers who prefer to play with a physical disc can expect to pay at least £80 more for the PS5 Slim disc model, with Amazon currently offering it for £469.95.

Very stocks the disc model for £479, with Game, Argos and PlayStation Direct offering it for £479.99, reports Birmingham Live.

Sony unveiled the Slim version of its PS5 in November 2023, three years after the debut of its larger sibling. The original PS5 was phased out following the launch of the new model, but those who favour the heftier option can still snag one from Amazon for £590.99.

As implied by its name, the PS5 Slim is a more streamlined version of the standard PS5, weighing in at 24 per cent lighter and 30 per cent smaller. It also boasts 1TB of storage compared to the previous model's 825GB and an additional USB-C port, along with 4K graphics and HDR technology.

Each console is equipped with Sony's DualSense wireless controller that provides haptic feedback and adaptive trigger functionality. It's important to remember that the digital models are not compatible with discs or Blu-ray films, but there is the option to add a PS5 disc drive for this purpose, which can be purchased from Argos for £99.99.
