When buying new tech, you need to be smart and look out for deals - otherwise you'll likely end up spending a whole lot more than you bargained for. Luckily, Amazon often slashes the price of well-respected gadgets, but these offers don't last forever.

Just take this deal on the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet, which has been reduced down to £109.99 from its full price of £179.99 - but only temporarily, as savings will end on October 16 at 8:55am. This is the latest Fire tablet, and the model with 64GB of capacity with ads. You can spend a bit less for 32GB, and a bit more to nab the device without ads - plus, you can also make savings on the lilac and ocean colourways.

According to price comparison website Camel Camel Camel, this is the lowest ever price Amazon has offered for the tablet, making it a really special one-off deal. And it comes with all the bells and whistles you'd want from a top-notch tablet - a crisp, full HD display, battery life of up to 13 hours and the option of expandable storage if you buy an extra microSD card.

Amazon assures customers that this is a durable tablet - which is a must if you've got kids in the house who might use it. Speaking of children, it comes with parental controls for extra peace of mind. All of that, and there's a front-facing camera so you can easily video chat with family and friends from the gadget.

Whether you're working, reading, playing games, watching shows or more, it seems like customers love this tablet, awarding it 4.6 stars out of over 2,000 global ratings on Amazon. "Crystal clear screen, light and easy to hold, fast and responsive, good sound too. Browsing, watching video, reading Kindle... all very comfortable. Highly recommended," one shopper wrote in their review.

A second chimed in that the tablet "performs fantastically, sound quality is brilliant, it looks good, big screen, good memory space and is really easy to use. I wouldn’t be without mine." A third agreed: "Value for money and good quality pictures."

However, it's also worth looking at some of the less complimentary reviews. "Being used to an iPhone/iPad it’s all a bit fiddly trying to find out where all the settings are but we’ve mostly figured them out," one customer warned. "Good tablet with a decent screen, but the ads are everywhere, home screen, lockscreen, within the apps," another said - if that sounds like something that would annoy you, it would be worth looking into the ad-free version.

If you were a dedicated Apple fan, you might be more comfortable with an iPad - with prices starting from £349. Alternatively, for something a bit more wallet-friendly, you could look to Samsung's Galaxy Tab A9, which is currently reduced from £169 down to £129 on Currys.
