John Fury moved boxing legend Mike Tyson nearly to tears with a heartfelt revelation during a recent encounter.

While Iron Mike is busy preparing for his fight against Jake Paul and namesake Tyson Fury gets ready for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, an emotional moment has emerged from the set of 'Boxing Arabia' earlier this year.

A video clip from this year resurfaced online, showing the touching exchange where John told Mike Tyson that his son, the heavyweight champion, was named in his honour. The surprise meeting on 'Boxing Arabia' saw Fury Senior sit alongside a 58-year-old Mike and recount the tale behind Tyson Fury's name.

Taking his seat next to the former champion, John said: "I have waited 35 years to meet this man."

He then expressed his extreme admiration for Tyson, recollecting how he used to wake up at 3am just to watch Tyson's bouts back in the 1980s.

But the homage ran deeper as John recounted the significance behind his own son's name, saying, "I said, 'hear these words. [Tyson Fury's] not only going to live. He's going to be seven feet tall, 20 stone, and the next heavyweight champion of the world, and his name is Tyson'," which visibly touched Mike Tyson, reports the Mirror.

Tyson's emotional response prompted an abrupt end to the interview as he appeared overwhelmed and pushed away the microphone while calling out: "Time, time, stop, stop."

It seems the deep respect John Fury has for boxing great Mike Tyson was put to the test when Tyson sided with Francis Ngannou over his son. In a press conference ahead of the highly anticipated bout in October 2023, Fury Sr made headlines by challenging Iron Mike himself and reflecting on the honour he felt naming his son after the icon.

"I'm sat in the company of these great people, Mike Tyson on the end who I named my son after, I named my son Tyson. But you know what? Give me a special mention, the man who bred him," said Fury Sr.

Undaunted, he boldly claimed, "John Fury fears no man, no man on earth no matter what they've done, no matter what the accolades. Here I am, any man alive wants to fight John Fury, I'm ready to go, Mike Tyson what have you got to say to that my brother? " Tyson's blunt reply was that Fury Sr was "out of his mind".

However, John Fury suspects Tyson’s choice of Jake Paul as an opponent is more about dodging him than seeking a worthy match. Even as April rolled around, Fury Sr was again throwing down the gauntlet to Tyson.

Despite his impressive past as a pro boxer and bare-knuckle fighter, Fury Sr's challenge to a legend like Mike Tyson has many questioning if he's biting off more than he can chew. Yet, the elder Fury’s bravado remains undiminished as he continues to seek this formidable clash.

John Fury, father of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, expressed his disbelief at Mike Tyson's choice of opponent, telling Seconds Out: "I'm the same age as him. What the hell is wrong with him," and adding that even Turki Alalshikh was surprised, saying "Even Turki (Turki Alalshikh, Saudi Arabian Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority) said... His Excellency said, 'I'm shocked Tyson didn't want to fight you'," John Fury, also known as the Gypsy King's dad, confidently stated: "I'm shocked myself but I tell you what, I must have a presence – the Gypsy King's dad. He's fighting a middleweight instead of me. But I'll fight anybody, I'm not bothered."

He also emphasized the importance of being compensated fairly for such risks: "Let's get me paid – but pay me what I'm worth. You can get killed can't you? But I'm willing to risk my life for the right fight and the right fight is him, Mike Tyson."
