Dad missing on solo boat trip is found in Ireland

A man who was the subject of a major missing person's search after failing to return home from a solo boat trip in Fishguard has been found "safe and well", said police. Chris Ellery's daughter Kenzie said on social media that her father was found in Ireland.

The missing dad was reported missing by his family after he was last seen on Wednesday at 2pm, where CCTV captured him leaving Fishguard harbour. The 54-year-old dad was on an inflatable boat, visiting Fishguard from his home in Bristol.

His family raised the alarm on Friday after he failed to return home as planned on Thursday afternoon, sparking appeals from Dyfed-Powys Police. The force confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Mr Ellery has now been found.

A statement said: "Chris, reported missing in the Fishguard area, has been found safe and well. Thank you to all who shared the appeal."

Coastguards in Milford Haven told the BBC that Mr Ellery had attempted to cross the Irish Sea, but broke down without communications. He was able to get to the coast of County Wicklow and made his way to the local police station.

Garda (Irish police) officers confirmed to coastguards in Milford Haven that he was safe and well.

Mr Ellery's daughter Kenzie posted on Facebook: "My dad is alive he has been found in Ireland".
