The 1980s classic has not been seen for almost a decade in the UK

After weeks of speculation and years of campaigning, McDonald's has confirmed it is bringing back the iconic burger the McRib. Rumours had been circulating online that the sandwich was set to return for the first time since 2015.

Now McDonald's has said the McRib will be back from October 16. The McRib is a pork burger with barbecue sauce, pickles and onions and will be on sale for £4.49 or as part of a meal for £6.19.

The McRib launched in the UK in 1981. Thomas O’Neill, head of menu at McDonald’s UK, said: “We have heard our fans loud and clear – the fan petitions and pleas on social - and after almost a decade of anticipation, we are thrilled to bring back this iconic menu item.

"Knowing how well-loved the McRib is, we had very little choice - we had to make it happen."

The news comes after messages began to appear on McDonalds apps earlier this month which suggested the McRib could be making a comeback. The whole menu will be revamped on October 16 with min hashbrowns also being added to the breakfast line-up.

The changes come as the latest McDonald's peel to win game comes to an end and the changes will stay on the menu until the Christmas line-up is rolled out towards the end of the year.

Six menu items will also be removed on October 16:

  • Philly Cheese Stack
  • Chicken Big Mac
  • Mozzarella Dippers
  • Galaxy Chocolate McFlurry
  • Twix Caramel McFlurry
  • Twix Latte
