Miranda Hart said that ‘there is always hope’ as she confirmed that she secretly got married following a ‘tough few years’.

The comedian appeared on BBC The One show on Tuesday alongside hosts Alex Jones and Alex Scott to promote her new book titled I Haven't Been Entirely Honest With You.

Miranda, 51, explained that fans can get an insight into her private life as she spoke about her mystery new husband and health battle.

She revealed that 'someone's put a ring on it' and confirmed that she met 'my person' at the age of 49. The star insisted that she would keep her husband's identity a secret as she explained: "I'm married, I got married at 51 and it's just so lovely! I'd written Gary for onscreen Miranda and it wasn't until I was 49 that I met my person.

"It's a little undercurrent in the book, I'm not going to reveal how we met because that's a little bit of a twist. He's my best friend, we had the best fun and I'm just thrilled to be a young bride at 51.”

Miranda went on to add that she hoped many people will feel hope from her love story as she said: “The fact that I met someone during a pandemic, during chronic illness, when I couldn't get out of bed or out of the house... I really, really wanted to meet someone, I didn't want to do life on my own anymore.

“The fact that I could meet somebody, it's not some of romcom story but it's hope. Whatever situation you are in, there is always hope. There is always hope that things really do change.”

Elsewhere in the show, Miranda also admitted that it has been a ‘tough year’ as she opened up on battling chronic illness.

Opening up she explained: “It’s not been the most pleasant few years. I've mostly been in bed with chronic illness and it’s been a tough few years.

She added: “It’s nice to be back on TV and I feel very excited because once you’ve been in bed and housebound with a chronic illness that takes a long time to be diagnosed, you miss life so I’m thrilled to be here.”
