According to reports, it was the couple's daughter that made the grim discovery

A couple found dead in their home alongside their pet dog were discovered by their daughter, according to a neighbour. South Wales Police is investigating the sudden deaths in Cardiff's Trowbridge.

Police were initially called to Morfa Crescent on Saturday, October 5 at around 2.50pm and a cordon remains in place. On Sunday police confirmed that two bodies were found in a house. A rifle was also recovered from the property.

Formal identification has not taken place but South Wales Police believe the bodies to be of a 72-year-old woman and a 74-year-old man. It is understood the couple's daughter found her parents after neighbours.

A neighbour who did not want to be named said: "We knew something was wrong because we all look out for each other in this little block here. We noticed something was strange that the curtains hadn't been opened and that was it. We managed to get hold of their daughter and she came and went in."

Detective Chief Inspector Lianne Rees, from South Wales Police, said: “Extensive enquiries are being conducted to establish the circumstances leading up to the incident. We are awaiting the results of post-mortem examinations which will confirm the cause of death. Currently, we are not actively seeking anyone else in connections with their deaths.” Join our WhatsApp news community here for the latest breaking news
