Heroes, zeros and the full inside pitch from the Mets’ 7-2 win over the Phillies in Game 3 of the NLDS on Tuesday night at Citi Field:

Hero

Sean Manaea outpitched Aaron Nola and baffled the Phillies over seven-plus, one-run innings, the Mets’ second-half ace establishing himself as the playoff ace, too.

Zero

Phillies fireballer Jose Alvarado faced five batters in the seventh inning and let three reach.

He was pulled before Jose Ruiz allowed a two-run single to Jose Iglesias.

Unsung hero

The Mets’ gloves deserve credit.

Mark Vientos speared an Alec Bohm grounder down the third-base line and threw from foul territory for one out in the second, before Bohm was robbed again two innings later by Tyrone Taylor, who barehanded a blast off the wall and sent a rocket to Francisco Lindor, who applied a nifty tag at second base.

Stat: 6

Runs driven in by the Mets with two outs, big hits from Jesse Winker, Starling Marte, Iglesias and Francisco Lindor padding the lead.

Quote of the Day

“That game was for her.”

— Sean Manaea, who learned his aunt died Tuesday morning and then delivered a gem.
