Jesse Winker slams helmet after extending Mets’ lead in unreal wild-card moment

· New York Post

Jesse Winker couldn’t contain his emotions when he crossed the plate to extend the Mets’ slim lead to 4-2 in the top of the ninth against the Brewers.

With Winker on second base, Starling Marte hit a single to right field that allowed Winker — who became a villain during this series for his back-and-forth with Willy Adames in Game 1 — to score and the fired-up Met couldn’t control himself.

After easily sliding into home, Winker stood up and slammed his helmet to the ground in excitement while he started screaming and pumping his fists.

The play occurred moments after Pete Alonso had hit a go-ahead three-run home run to put the Mets up by one late in the decisive Game 3, which ended with a 4-2 win that set up an NLDS showdown with the Phillies.
