Kelly Monaco taped final ‘General Hospital’ episode after shocking exit — according to her mom

Her shift is over, for good.

“General Hospital” star Kelly Monaco has left the show after over two decades, according to her mom.

On Sept. 27, her mom, Carmina Monaco, posted on Instagram that Monaco, 48, had just taped her last episode of the long running ABC soap.

“I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty, and support you’ve shown her throughout her time on General Hospital,” Carmina posted on social media Friday, per Deadline.

She continued, “On this final day, just four days shy of the anniversary of her first episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close the door of her dressing room for the last time. This moment is a difficult one, but knowing that she has had such an incredible, devoted fan base has given her strength.”

Her mom added, “You’ve stood by her through every twist and turn, celebrating her achievements and providing comfort in the hard times. Your love and dedication have meant more than words can express, not only to Kelly but to all of us who care so deeply for her.”

She ended her post by thanking fans “for being there, for believing in her, and for reminding her of the impact she’s made. We will always be grateful for you standing with her through it all.”

Fans took to her mother’s Instagram comments to express their dismay.

“I have watched GH for over 46 years and no character have I ever gravitated to like Sam. She had me girl fanning her from day 1. My loyalty and viewing ends with [Monaco’s last scene,” one outraged fan wrote.

Another commented, “No more GH for me I stand with Kelly.”

One angry fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “I’m extremely confident that #gh is offically on it’s way out and now dug the last foot of their grave. Giving Kelly Monaco the boot after 21 years and several recent years of completely sidelining her character and beyond capable talent is absolutely disgusting behavior.”

Monaco has been on the show for over 20 years since 2003. She’s appeared on over 2,000 episodes and has won two Daytime Emmys.

In 2023, while celebrating her 20th anniversary on “General Hospital,” Monaco told Soap Opera Digest, “GH is such a legendary show and I consider it my second home. Every day when I drive to the lot, I am just so honored to be part of it.”

In August, Soap Opera Network broke the news of Monaco’s departure, and reported that the actress was “blindsided” by the show’s choice to write her off. At the time, her exact exit date wasn’t specified.

That same month, fans set up a Change.org petition called “Retain Kelly Monaco in the Cast of General Hospital,” which has over 16,000 signatures to date.

Fans also launched the hashtags #SaveKelly and #IStandWithKelly, campaigning for the show to keep her.

Earlier this month, fans even took the #IStandWithKelly campaign to the show’s studios, driving a billboard truck around the location.

Previously, Monaco was also in “Baywatch,” and in 2005, she won the first mirrorball trophy for the first season of “Dancing With the Stars.”

She returned for the show’s “All-Star” season in 2012. Monaco and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, came in third place.

Chmerkovskiy, 38, later made a cameo on “General Hospital” as a boxer.

The show follows the lives of citizens in the fictional town of Port Charles, New York.

Monaco starred as Sam McCall, the daughter of mob boss Julian Jerome (William deVry) and attorney Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahan) that they put up for adoption. She first came to town as a con artist.

Monaco also appeared in the spinoff series “Port Charles,” playing a different character, Livvie Locke.
